Cusco is the capital of the Inca empire, a "must-see" destination on any first visit to Peru, and a city full of Inca, religious and Spanish colonial history. Many visitors will be well-aware of the nearby delights of Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley, but Cusco is a city worth much more than a stopover.

Within the city itself there are Incan ruins, beautiful plazas, ancient architecture, traditional markets, countless museums, art galleries, Cathedrals, monuments and beautiful vistas. This city is the heart of the Andes and is not to be missed. Here at Go Andes we appreciate people often travel on tight timescales, but if possible we highly recommend you include a visit to Cusco and try and squeeze in a free day or two to explore the sounds and sites of this famous Latin American town by yourselves.
